While many of us may be new to using rub-on’s these fun little embellishments have been around for a long long time.  The quality has just gotten better!  Rub-on’s were actually precursors to stickers, most of us just don’t remember that far back.

No matter how long they have been around, rub-on’s can make fantastic additions to any craft.  In fact, they can provide that little something extra that takes your project from average to amazing.  You just have to know how to use them properly.

When used right a rub on can look as though it was printed on the paper.  All you have to do is place the design against your project and rub it firmly with the provided tool.  This is a great finishing touch for projects that you just can’t send to the printer.  It is also nice that you can place the design wherever you want it with out having to worry about laying it out first on screen.

The first thing you want to do is to only buy high quality rub-on’s for your work.  Now, admittedly it can be hard to judge the quality of a product that you have never tried, but there are a few tell tale signs that can point you in the right direction.  First check and make sure that the designs are not coming off on their packaging.  This is a sure sign of a cheap rub on and something that you want to avoid.  Also look at the actual designs.  Are the colors strong a bold with clean lines and definite shapes, or are they spotty with inconsistent patterns?  If the design looks bad in the package then it is going to look bad on your project.

Once you have your designs, storing is just as important as choosing them.  Each sheet of rub-on’s comes with it’s own protective backing.  If you want to keep your designs safe until you use them then you have to keep the backing in place.  Other wise your designs will start to stick before you have a chance to use them.  You also want to keep them in a cool dry place.  Heat is not their friend, and moisture will cause the designs to pull away from their backing.

By following these simple guidelines you can assure that your rub-on’s stay fresh and are ready and waiting whenever you want to use them.  Try them for your self and you will see that these old time favorites are the next big thing in paper crafting!
