When the holidays come around, it is a time to celebrate and enjoy the good things in life. And what could be better at bringing people together than combining our two very favorite subjects, crafts and food. Here is a fun “crafts” project that the whole family can get into. Try this at your house and see everyone come together for an evening of fun and family. And the best part is, you can eat it when you’re done!
What you need: - Graham crackers, break the large crackers on the lines to make 4 smaller sections
- Chocolate kisses with almonds
- Maraschino cherries with the stem
- Slivered almonds
- Chocolate to melt
- Cupcake decorations, like sprinkles
- Small tube of colored icing with a very fine tip
First start by giving everyone their own graham cracker section. Now we feel that we should note here that it is important to not eat your supplies, tempting though it may be! Now you need to melt the chocolate on the stove or in the microwave. You don’t need a huge amount, just enough to dip the cherries into. Once the chocolate is melted, dip your cherry into the chocolate and coat it well. Then take the cherry and lay it on the graham cracker with the stem hanging off the end. You want to work this long ways so that you have more of a platform to work with. Can you guess what we are making yet? Once your cherry is in place unwrap a chocolate kiss and lay it on its side on the graham cracker. You want the flat bottom of the kiss to be snug up against the cherry. If it won’t stick just use a little melted chocolate like glue. Now take two slivers of almonds and stick them between the cherry and the kiss, like ears. Is it starting to look like a mouse yet? This is the fun part; it’s time to decorate! Use the icing to draw a face and whiskers. Then use the decorations to “dress” your mouse. Everyone’s mouse will have it’s own special personality. When all the fun is done, it’s time to eat. As an added bonus, especially to little boys, enjoy the crunch of the little almond “brains.” See we told you this craft had something for everybody! -- Shahar and Nashlah are passionate about teaching people how to master their craft.
