Camping in an RV PDF Print E-mail
Do you know what "RV" stands for?  It stands for Recreation Vehicle.  A RV is a great way to take a family camping trip.  You can experience the landscape of our great nation and still have the basic creature comforts of your own bathroom and kitchen.

Camping via an RV has rose in popularity because it is a compromise between family members that want to go camping and those that don't want to give up their hair dryer.  Camping in an RV also provides an added benefit of reconnecting with your family.  Recently, the movie "RV" starring Robin Williams demonstrates this fact.  We live in a digital world that in some ways has distanced the relationships between family members.  Taking a camping trip in a RV forces family members, in a good way, to listen to and interact with each other.  Plus, camping in an RV is very comfortable and fun.

If you haven't been in a RV in a long time, or ever, then you might be surprised to find just how up-to-date RV's can be.  Just like homes and cars, RV's come in different price ranges based on size and features.  When you purchase an RV you need to consider your budget, family size, typical camping trip agenda, and the desire features.  It can be difficult to pin down some of these details from the get-go so you should research possible RV options thoroughly.

The best way to find which RV is right for you is to head to an RV dealer.  Yes, it is a good idea to read about the various features online, but online research should be only your first line of research.  You need to speak with a RV expert, physically tour different RV's, and also take a test drive.  Take your time because you are making a big investment.

What features do top notch RVs have today?  Currently RVs have everything including the kitchen sink!  The basic setup of most RVs includes sleeping areas, kitchen (stove, refrigerator/freezer, oven, dishwasher, and microwave), dining table, bathroom, shower, storage closets and drawers.  You can also attach bikes, windsurfers, and other sports equipment to the roof and back of the RV.

Additional technical features you can find in some RVs include:  Internet access, satellite dish, CD, DVD, and video game entertainment systems.  Many RVs have a GPS system that gives you driving directions so you don't have fumble with maps anymore.

How much do RVs cost?  The cost of an RV depends on the specific RV style you choose.  RVs can range from $3,000 for a small pop-out camper to $35,000 for a motor home.  You do have the option of financing your purchase.  You can also buy a previously owned RV.  If you don't want to invest in an RV you can also rent one.  Renting an RV can range from $50 to $200 per day.

Costs aside, taking an RV for your family camping trip brings family members of all ages together.  You have the option to dine out or dine in your motor home.  You have the convenience of exploring the hiking trails during the day and then sleeping in bug-free comfort during the night.  If the weather is unbearably hot, you can always jump in your RV to cool off as most RVs have air conditioners.

Begin your research online for the RV that will best suit your needs.  Figure out what areas of the country you would like to see whether they are local campgrounds or parks several states away.  An RV will give you the flexibility and comfort that many campers desire.
